Product overview

This project attempts to use sensors to track the training process, help provide visual feedback on movement, as well as visualize the data from the workouts, allowing people to exercise their back muscles in a more effective way. A wearable product for back muscle training, an app was integrated to visualize the training process and results, providing real-time feedback on exercise form and motivational cues.

Customer challenge

Research
We conducted 24 customers interview asked questions about:
– Personal background
– How often do you work out?
– Where do you usually worked out (Home/gym/outdoor)?
– What type of exercises do you keep in your exercise routine?
– Do you have experience with back training? If so, please share how you usually do it.
  1. Follow-up: What equipment or methods have you used? Do you find them effective? Why?
  2. Follow-up: Have you encountered any difficulties or challenges when training alone? How did you overcome them?

–  What do you consider the most important feature when choosing back exercise equipment? What do you expect such equipment to do?

  1. Follow-up: Do you have any specific preferences or requirements? Why?
  2. Follow-up: Have you ever felt limited due to the lack of certain features in equipment? Can you give an example?
– How do you ensure standardized back training without a fitness trainer?
  1. Follow-up: What methods have you tried to ensure training quality? Which ones are most effective?
  2. Follow-up: Have you ever felt confused or unsure due to the lack of professional guidance? How did you resolve it?

Challenges
We find that many individuals fail to consistently engage in effective back muscle exercises due to challenges such as lack of motivation, incorrect exercise techniques, and absence of real-time feedback, leading to increased risk of back pain and injuries.
 
  • Lack of Motivation: difficult to forming habits. Maintaining interest in a workout routine can be difficult without variety in exercises. 
  • Improper Techniques: Without professional guidance, there is a high risk of performing exercises incorrectly, which can lead to ineffective workouts or, worse, injuries.
  • Lack of Feedback: Training at home generally lacks immediate feedback on performance and technique.

Customer persona

User story

  • As a beginner in back exercises, I wasn’t sure which exercises would suit my training goals and physical condition. So I hope the product can recommend training plan for me.

  • As a casual user, I hope that I can easily change the training goal or extend it at any time.

Acceptance criteria

  • The app should provide custom exercise plan based on the information that users provide in personal profile.
  • The App should collect basic information of user when create account  (Height, Weight, Exercise frequency, Knowledge level of back exercise, training goal)
  • The App should allow user to edit the existing plan in less than 5 steps.
  • The application should provide post-training recommendations based on the intensity of the exercise at the end of the user’s workout.(High intensity and long time exercise will need more relax movement)
 
  • The app should analysis the motion data from trackig device and use ML to distinguish if it has meet the standards. 
  • The motion accuracy should more than 90%.
